Earth Day 2015- Recognizing Endangered Species Project -Salamander, Ambystoma californiense

Project Description

The California Tiger Salamander, Ambystoma californiense, is an endangered species found in the Santa Barbara area of California. These salamanders are currently becoming endangered because of habitat destruction and predators such as American Bullfrogs. The salamanders depend on stock ponds and freshwater wetlands for reproduction. The adult salamanders migrate at night to aquatic breeding sites at the first rainfall of fall or winter. Destroying these habitats is making the salamanders limit reproduction, causing them to become endangered. I believe that it is important to save these organisms, along with all organisms, because it brings diversity to the Santa Barbara area. To help protect this animal, you could help halt the destruction of their habitats. People are taking out these wetlands for residential or business purposes.
