Ash.bee55 almost 9 years ago The Chattahoochee River is quite a blessing to all fishermen in or around Atlanta due to it's large variety of fish - they could find just about any type they could possibly desire here. In the upper portion of the Chattahoochee, near the mountains of Helen, GA, the most prominent fish you will find is the trout! One type of trout fish you could find in the Chattahoochee River is the brown trout fish, which is one of the most genetically diverse types of fish! The brown trout actually has between 38 and 42 pairs of chromosomes, as well as it's closest relative the rainbow trout does. The brown trout is one fish that actually doesn't interbreed in the wild and it adapts so well that there are around 50 different species in which people have tried to categorize them in!

Spenserat05 almost 9 years ago One of the areas that is most threatened by the current drought is Apalachicola Bay, which supports a $US 134 million commercial seafood industry, with an additional $US 71 million in value-added benefits each year. Historically, the bay has accounted for 60 to 85 percent of employment in surrounding Franklin County, Florida, according to a report from the Apalachicola National Estuarine Research Reserve (ANERR). This has a lot to do with the Chattahoochee River which flows into the bay. The Oysters per square feet has dropped from 40 to 6.

Jmulli21 almost 9 years ago In addition to supplying nearly 70 percent of metro Atlanta's drinking water, the 48-mile stretch of the Chattahoochee River between Buford Dam and Peachtree Creek offers some of the best fishing in north Georgia. The most prominent fish to the area is the trout! Rainbow and Brown trout are two different types that you will find. Fly fishing is especially popular on the Chattahoochee. You can access fly reports online to check the conditions for fishing. It is also important to respect the regulations on boating and fishing to keep the Chattahoochee for future generations.

Tbyrom almost 9 years ago The Chattahoochee River is the southern most habitat for trout. The types of trout found here are the brook trout, brown trout, and rainbow trout. All trout have well-developed teeth on their jaws.Trout belong to the Salmonidae family, and this family live in temperate salt and fresh water in the Northern Hemisphere and there are 39 species currently.

Deathbytorture almost 9 years ago The three-lined salamander has, as its name implies, three lines. The mid stripe, black, is flanked by two yellowish (really, it's more of a beige) which, in turn, are flanked by two more black stripes that run the full length of the sides of the body; underneath all of that is the yellowish and gray speckled belly of the salamander. It's size can vary from roughly 10-20 cm in which nearly two-thirds of the body is tail - survivability odds are greatly increased when the main body takes up such little overall space; hence, when attacked, the salamander takes a defensive posture by coiling it's body. Typically found under cover and brush near rivers (such as the Chattahoochee), close to where they mate and hatch eggs. Eggs typically take one full year to become adult and are always hatched in water.

Lsteve23 almost 9 years ago Georgia, Alabama, and Florida share water from the Apalachicola-Chattahoochee-Flint water basin and each state has their own concerns about how to use it. While the river flows through each state, it is disproportionate and doesn�۪t exactly have equal amounts of water per state. This led to concerns over how much water each state was getting, especially since Georgia is where the river starts, and Alabama and Florida were concerned there won�۪t be enough water coming in downstream to supply the both of them. Georgia wishes to provide for its growing population, Alabama uses the water for power generation, fisheries, and other revenue making tasks, and Florida uses it to sustain their freshwater ecolife. All three states have legitimate concerns of the allocation of water, and have started a water war to try and ensure equal enough distribution of water.

Vicki.selleck almost 9 years ago The Chattahoochee River empties into Lake Lanier above Atlanta. This water system also has the smallest watershed or drainage area. This is important to Atlanta because it provides a large portion of water for that area. Receiving this water helps the Georgians with everyday water for bathing, drinking, and many more uses. If we did not have this water millions of people in Georgia would not have water.

Rlautur1 almost 9 years ago The Gold Branch trail is one of the walking trails that you will see the most beautiful landscape. It is generally very quiet, and allows you to see creatures like deer, heron, geese, and turtles on the mud flats.

Aaronx94 almost 9 years ago If you ever get a chance to go tubing down the Chattahoochee River it can be a calming experience. It can be time for you to relax and become one with nature. Some people have their own tubes so they can go to the recreation area and just pay $3 for parking. If you do not have a tube there are two companies that you can rent a tube from. One named Shoot the Hooch which costs $26 for 1-3 hours and the other company is named $10 River Tubing which costs $10-$14 for 2,4, or 6 hours. So this can be a great trip to experience over the Summer.

Tblosso1 almost 9 years ago 75% of the Chattahooche River's pollution comes from urban runoff like eroded soil from construction. Over 150 waste water facilities are allowed to empty water into the Chattahooche River. The Chattahooche River is connected to other rivers and lakes, so it picks up a lot of trash, chemicals, and sediment on its way downstream. Over the past year, the city of Atlanta was forced to clean 568 tons of trash in streams that went into the Chattahooche River.

Nielsen.kory almost 9 years ago The Chattahooche River is a very good place to go fly fishing. Your best bet is to be able to catch either brown or rainbow trout in the clear, cool, smooth flowing waters that create their habitats. Releases from the Buford Dam can make fishing dangerous, but when the water recedes it will usually pick right back up. There are almost 200,000 decent sized rainbow trout stocked in the Chattahooche every year for catching, but brown trout have not been stocked since 2004 and are managed as a wild population.

Ecw_2013 almost 9 years ago Almost 4 million people in Atlanta depend on the Chattahoochee River because we take water from the river to use. The downside on this is that when we get rid of the used water, it is treated as sewage water and gets put back into rivers around the metropolitan area like the Oconee River. Another downside is that our population is getting bigger, meaning the water level is decreasing because the more people in the area, the more water is used. We need to be aware of our water usage so we do not dry out this major river.

Jamila2055 almost 9 years ago While strolling along the banks of the Chattahoochee River a person is more than likely going to have an encounter with an amphibian. These amphibian include toads, salamanders, and newts. This is because these animals live on land but breed in or near water. The water provided by the river is a comfortable breeding place as well as spot to cool down for the amphibian family.

Eguthri2 almost 9 years ago The Chattahoochee River's depth varies by the location in which the measurement is being taken and may change day by day. Currently, today December 1st, the lowest point provided by the National Weather Service is -.5ft located in Buford. The highest depth today is 187.46ft located in Omaha.

The Chattahoochee River being emptied into the Gulf of Mexico is very important to our everday living such as drinking,cooking, and bathing. without the the chattahoochee river draining, we would be very limited on the cruical necessity for surival which is water.

Roth.nikki10 almost 9 years ago Just a few reasons why GA, AL, and FL are having issues relating to the water flow are GA, AL, and FL are in what they call a water war۝. It is a war described as people versus endangered species. The three states have been fighting with each other and the corps for about 20 years over how the water should be used.

After flowing southwest through Georgia, it merges with the Flint River in Lake Seminole, which is located on the Florida border. Here, its name becomes the Apalachicola Rives ��as it meanders through Florida to the Gulf of Mexico�۝ (www.chattahoochee.org). Although some people have come to believe that its orange color comes from the sun�۪s reflection, the most practical answer comes from laminated, colored sands that often have a ��splash�۝ of whitish clay.

The Chattahoochee River is known as one of Georgia's first trout streams and is a prime location to fish for trouts. Since the rate of the catching trouts is higher than releasing, the river has to be restocked monthly of trouts.

Jstanl26 almost 9 years ago The Chattahoochee River starts off in the Blue Ridge Mountains as a warm water stream. It then flows through the Buford Dam where it flows into cooler water. It flows from North Georgia all the way down to South Georgia with human and natural influences. Between eroded soil from construction, stormwater runoff, wastewater runoff, and people using it for recreational purposes, it is heavily polluted and the mud on the bottom on the river is stirred up causing the orange color.

Helenalofton almost 9 years ago Two tribes of Indians , the Woodland and the Archaic, used the Chattahoochee River. Later in time, tow other tribes of Indians, the Cherokee and the Creek. They used the Chattahoochee as a barrier. AT first the barrier was between the two tribes and then the later the river served as a barrier between the Indians and the settlers. This river was also a sight during Georgia's Gold Rush.

Rford20 almost 9 years ago Hydroelectric plants direct the flow of the Chattachoochee River by releasing water for production of hydro-power. Some parts of the river are free flowing, flowing under natural conditions, such as Cornelia Georgia.

Wahwahgirlkam almost 9 years ago Along the Chattahoochee River, there are close to 200 species of birds, one of those being the Northern Cardinal. Most cardinals you might see are the bright red color, indicating it�۪s a male. The female cardinals are a reddish-brown color and are one of the only female North American songbirds that sing. Northern Cardinals tend to sit in shrubs and trees and often travel in pairs.

The river begins in the southern Blue Ridge Mountains, which is a sub-range of the Appalachian Mountains. It's headwaters flow south and the river's source lies within the Chattahoochee National Forest.

Jade_peters almost 9 years ago Two of the well-known places to tube along the Chattahoochee River are in Helen and Duluth, Ga. At each location companies offer tubing trips that last between 1-�_ hours up to 6 hours. In some areas along the river it is required that tubers wear life jackets, while in other spots tubers over the age of 10 do not need to wear life jackets.

Neysha.cuevas almost 9 years ago The Chattahoochee River starts in the North Georgia Mountains. Along the Chattahoochee River you will find a diversity of plants and habitats. In the river and along its edges you will see a rich array of plants. Did you know that when the Chattahoochee River first formed it consisted of warm water stream within its length? Well it did until the Buford Dam in 1956 when then changed the river forever. The dam releases cold water causing cold water stream in the Chattahoochee River. The Chattahoochee River flows all through Georgia until it reaches the Alabama state line which then merges with the Flint River. The two rivers joining together form Apalachicola which then dumps into Apalachicola Bay in the Gulf.

Kbrook almost 9 years ago The most widely used water resource in Georgia is the Chattahoochee River. Unfortunately the water quality suffers due to non-point sources and urban runoff. 75% of the rivers pollution come from these natural and human influenced activities. This means that a large portion of the water pollution is from human activity which could be prevented.

Ashley_marie5683 almost 9 years ago Updated fact: Almost 4 million people in the metro Atlanta area are dependent on the Chattahoochee RIver for their water needs. Most of the water is being used in different ways like waste water for sewers, outdoor use like watering gardens, or most importantly our drinking water. SInce Atlanta's population is always growing, this will only strain our water supply and we will have to find other resources to obtain water!

Rnjsu1990 almost 9 years ago Stone Cabin Trail is close to Stone Cabin which was once a component of Camp Chattahoochee. On Stone Cabin trail you will find some plant species which include Trillium, Mayapple, and Sweetgum. Some animal species are the Eastern Gray Squirrel, Northern Flicker, and The Yellow-Bellied Slider.

Dixie3259 almost 9 years ago The Chattahoochee River is about 430 miles long and it begins in Northern Georgia. It flows through Georgia to border Alabama then pass into Florida where it empties into the Gulf of Mexico. It has been used for transportation and trade between the Gulf of Mexico and Columbus.

Cwalkey almost 9 years ago The number of people who depend on water from the Chattachoochee River is massive; nearly 4 million people! This is because the river flows directly through Atlanta. Those people use about 450 million gallons of Chattahoochee water a day combined for reasons such as drinking water, recreational use (who doesn't like to go canoeing down the river on a hot summer day?), and power. Needless to say, the Chattahoochee River is an important source of water.

Twilso96 almost 9 years ago A Study was conducted in 2007 to determine the possiblity of creating a canoe trail along the Upper Chattahoochee from Sautee Creek in White County to Clarks Bride at Lake Lanier. The trail, which contains class II and III rapids would link 10 natural sites and areas, many of which are state or federally owned parks. The primary purpose of such a trail would be to increase public interest and investment into water conservation and stewardship.

Most of the water is used for purposes such as waste water, outdoor use, or drinking water.
